Hiking and climbing Mt St Helens
/The cabins are situated in close proximity to Seattle and the Cascade mountains. You can easily day trip to one of Washington’s iconic volcanoes. Last weekend we decided to climb and ski on Mt. St Helen’s. On a good traffic day you can get there in 3.5 hours from the Skykomish Vida Chalet. We hiked, climbed then skied down. In the summer the mountain gives access to a moderate but challenging day hike. From the top you can see other Washington and Oregon volcanoes in stunning close proximity including Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt Baker, and Mt Hood. There are campsites at the trailhead and further up the mountain if you want to stay longer and enjoy the ape caves (lava cave system).
